Artist: HeHe

HeHe, Nuage Vert, Helsinki, 2008

HeHe is an artistic and design duo set up in 1999 in Paris by Helen Evans (England 1972) and Heiko Hansen (Germany 1970). They work with light, sound and images to investigate the relationships between the individual and his/her architectural and urban environments. HeHe sees cities as an inexhaustible source of possibilities, not only for new buildings, but also for critical observations, for the renovation of buildings and infrastructure, for making the invisible visible, and for new interpretations so that new stories can be created for those living in cities.

HeHe regard workaday aspects of a city such as public transport, devices used to measure environmental pollution or building materials as rich sources that can be dissected, designed anew and documented. Their Utopian suggestions are frequently disguised as ready-to-use products, and this is not far off the mark, because once they have been realised, their pieces actually do function.

HeHe combine their many activities, which include modern art exhibitions, design shows, media art festivals and conferences on technological research. Besides working on commissions and exhibitions they teach at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Italy, the National School of Industrial Design in Paris (Les Ateliers), and at Amsterdam University. Helen and Heiko studied industrial design, theatre design and engineering. They both completed their course in Computer Related Design at the Royal College of Art in London in 1999.
